Youthlife helps young people who have experienced traumatic loss to work through painful emotions of grief in a safe, supported and confidential environment.

Who we are

A team of staff and 38 young volunteers helping more than 300 young people each year.

Where we're based

Derry, Northern Ireland

When we started

1992

How we started

A small group of pioneering visionaries struggling to cope with the profound grief at the loss of a partner seized the initiative to help themselves, their children and others in their community.

Our work

Our team of adult and youth volunteers deliver a comprehensive range of programmes to young people focussing on grief and life skills. Recognising the unique power of peer support, our young volunteers reach out to each other with empathy and sensitivity, ensuring that hard to reach and socially excluded young people from all religious and cultural backgrounds hear about our services.

Future plans

Our future plans are to continue with our core work of delivering grief resolution programmes and to develop our new strand of work with young people who are engaging in serious self harm and suicidal ideation.
