Peer mentoring is about young people supporting other young people through issues that may be effecting their lives, its about giving them support to feel that they are valued members of society and make them more confident individuals.

Who we are

Ten young people from Dundee

Where we're based

Dundee

When we started

Jun-06

How we started

Young people who had recieved support from Xplore approached us wanting to give something back to the project. After discussions with the young people we set up a pilot peer mentoring programme.

Our work

Young people undertake an extensive training programme covering different skills. Once they have completed their training they are linked up with other young people either on 1-1 basis or in a group work setting. They provide support to young people which can include independent travel, accessing community activities, homework, friendship issues, home issues etc. Peer Volunteers are given the opportunity to undertake accreditation and are supported in putting together a portfolio of their work. They are also supported with CV writing , interview skills and given other volounteering opportunities.

Future plans

We hope to continue to support the peer volounteers and clients to continue to progress through the programme . We hope to train up to 15 volunteers in the next 12 months.
