How we started
We started as a branch of the housing project where we currently work from in an area that had been previously used as a social area but had folded some time before. We recognised the need for something within the area which gave young people a real voice in services that they thought they required.
Our work
The project is member run with a management committee which offers social, educational and training oportunities for all of its members. We offer traing on an array of subjects which include sexual health mentoring, managing challenging behaviour, drugs and alcohol awareness, anti social behaviour, communication skills, teamwork. Our initial emphasis is on the social side of things but get young people involved in more aspects of the education and training side when they are comfortable with what we do. We work collaboratively with many other agencies both statutory and voluntary to offer as wide a spectrum of oportunities as possible.
Future plans
Current plans include opening our cafe so we can offer healthier choice foods at as reasonable a price as possible to the membership, access funding to get our own recording studio as we have a large number of members who are quite gifted in the music area. to continue broadening our scope to keep up with the requests from members. We currently have over 400 members and we hope to develop things but would need larger premises to do so.
