The project challenges negative stereotypes about young people by undertaking community action projects, such as fundraising, gardening for disabled people and intergenerational projects.

How we started

The project started almost two years ago, after the organisation successfully bid to the Co-operative Foundation to run Truth About Youth in Tyne and Wear. Since then we have worked with over 200 young people aged 11 - 25 as direct beneficiaries of the project, and over 4500 one off young participants.

Our work

Truth About Youth (TAY) North East is being delivered in Tyne and Wear by the Regional Youth Work Unit, in partnership with the Co-operative Foundation. The project aims to challenge and change the negative stereotypes about young people, buy promoting a more positive and realistic view of young people. TAY is entirely youth-led, employing young people at the heart of the project to put into action the young steering group's ideas.

Future plans

We want to build on the successful intergenerational work that we have done over the last year, by developing an intergenerational toolkit, encouraging young people to reconnect with their grandparents. We also want to expand on our Goodie in a Hoodie activities and develop our network of young media specialists further.
