How we started
The intergenerational project was set up in 1997 to create opportunities for young volunteers to support older people.
Our work
The Sixty Plus project works to overcome prejudices between younger and older people. Local sixth formers work as volunteers to help support older residents to remain independent. They offer reading and admin support to visually impaired older people, and tailored ICT and English language coaching to housebound older people. There is a strong element of mutual mentoring, and the project enables young people to develop their communications skills and confidence.
Future plans
In 2009 the Sixty Plus project merged with Age Concern Kensington and Chelsea. It continues to provide a range of volunteering services which benefit local older people.

When Constance sent her first email, it was so rewarding that after all our hard work she gained just a little bit more independence.
