SAFE magazine was set up to offer young people the chance to get involved in all aspects of producing a magazine.
Our work
Over 30 young people in Sparkhill are actively and proudly contributing to SAFE, a project enabling them to express opinions and critique services and events that impact on their lives and neighbourhoods. These young people are involved with the production of a magazine, which focuses on the diverse range of issues that affect them. SAFE offers local young people the opportunity to develop their skills and abilities by being actively involved with the production stages for the magazine, from journalism through to design. And their contributions have influenced many others in the community to get involved and proudly take ownership of the project. Political awareness and good citizenship have been successfully promoted through the achievements of the young people who have taken part. SAFE is encouraging young people to explore different issues, to build bridges with their contemporaries and to work together in the deprived area of Sparkhill. The skills learnt are invaluable in the area which suffers from a high rate of unemployment.

SAFE project is about young people getting a chance to voice their views and opinions about everything and anything without adults being able to censor or change copy. It also offers us the chance to design and work on print copy as well as travel.
