Who we are
54 young people.
Where we're based
Acton, London
When we started
1997, and launched as a charity in 2004.
How we started
Youth2Youth began in 1997. Two organisations: Ealing Youth Counselling and Information Service, part of Ealing Youth Service, and MIND in Ealing and Hounslow came together to set up a telephone helpline in West London. After consultation with groups of young people from West London the project was able to produce aims, employ a helpline manager, recruit and train the helpline staff. The telephone helpline was launched in October 1997. It has since grown into a national service.
Our work
Youth2Youth is a national helpline for under 19 year olds in need of emotional support. A team of 54 trained volunteers from diverse backgrounds, aged between 16 and 21, run the service which includes email or online support as well as via telephone. The young volunteers are directly involved in the development of Y2Y, and learn valuable skills including active listening, empathy and dealing with challenging situations.
