How we started
Deptford Youth Forum and Deptford Green School came together to develop a forum where young people could express their concerns and discuss issues relevant to them and the community. Initial concerns included issues such as safety - both on the street and in school, and substance abuse. Oi! Magazine was born out of this forum.
Our work
Oi! is a high quality magazine, both in its design and content, and is a valued publication in the local area. Each issue is distributed to over 5000 young people, and is greeted with great excitement and anticipation by the readers. The young people involved in the project come from a variety of background and enjoy working on the project and broadening their skill base. In an adult world, young people often do not have opportunities to voice their concerns, share their experiences, and promote change in areas which matter to them. Oi! gives young readers opportunities to get involved in their community by opening up the forum for discussion and bringing people together.
Future plans
In the last edition I did a fashion page. I wrote and photographed it, and really enjoyed the experience.
