Jan-01

How we started

The Youth Council was started as a result of a small group of young people from Glanafan Comprehensive School, Port Talbot's involvement in the setting up of a media project called “Teen Voice” which supported young people “Having a Voice in their Community”.

Our work

The NPT Youth Council meet on a regular basis and young people hold meetings in support of debating youth issues of concern within their communities. They then vote & discuss the 2 most important issues across NPT and hold quarterly Cabinet meetings in support with the local Council officials, local Cllrs, Cabinet Members and Heads of Service within out Council in order to challenge and improve the lives of young people, creating a “seamless system”. They also run a regular radio show on afanfm by and for young people.

Future plans

The NPT Youth Council now wishes to create a Business Plan and to become an elected body representing the voices of young people across Neath Port Talbot, working in partnership with the local authorities and many other partners who wish to improve the lives of young people.
