2010 REGIONAL FINALIST Regenerative artwork created by young people, breaking down barriers with the local community.

How we started

We started by talking with youth workers about local problems especially around Redwood Park and wanted to show that not most young people are actually quite positive and want to do good things for their community.

Our work

Morph4us was developed due to anti-social behaviour and local residents and shopkeepers who live around the local park complaining about the number of young people causing trouble in the area. We designed a piece of regenerative artwork in the park hoping to tackle the negative stereotypical image of young people in the area by showing some of us to be doing something positive for the community. During this time we spent a lot of time talking to the community about what they felt about young people locally and also how they would like to influence the design of the final art pieces and they also got to vote to decide which one we did. As a result of the success of the original project the local police asked the group to design an art piece for the local police station, which was completed in December 2009.

Future plans

We have just got money to continue the project over the next 2 years, for the future projects we are going to bring together young people and their community to work together to try and break down some of the views that we have of each other.
