We are a youth run group who use music and other creative arts as a means of empowering young people in the local area, bringing them together and promoting positive messages.

Who we are

30 young people with Caribbean, African, Kurdish and British ethnic heritage.

Where we're based

Tottenham, London

When we started

Aug-03

How we started

Let's Be Positive (LBP) grew from the popular Summer Music Album Project which first ran as a pilot project by the Bridge NDC in 2003. By 2005 with support from the Bridge NDC and the third CD produced from the project, 40 of us had set up LBP Youth Group, with 13 elected members aged between 13 and 20 to manage the group.

Our work

Being a constituted group enables us to raise and apply for funds and grants independently and to produce our own positive projects and performances. Our songs promote self-empowerment and ownership and tackle social issues - and we have given out our CDs to over 4,000 local young people and attracting a growing membership.

Future plans

We will keep on developing projects and encouraging new members. We want to access funding to enable a nationwide campaign, using our music and other creative arts, through which to spread our positive message about respecting your community and one another.

Being positive is aspiring to empower yourself, by breaking old boundaries and creating new ones, each time aiming higher and higher. After all, you can't empower others until you have empowered yourself.
