Kemsley Youth House provides a safe environment for young people to meet.

Who we are

A core group of 15 to 20 young people, though as many as 80 are involved.

Where we're based

Kemsley, Sittingbourne

When we started

1999

How we started

The project was started by a mixed group of young people, when their village gained a reputation for high unemployment and crime. They demanded a safer environment and an opportunity to use their free time constructively, and after making a succssful bid for funding, the Youth House began.

Our work

A sustainable project targeting disaffection, the House's supportive and inclusive environment has enabled its young people to foster better relationships with the village community. Perceptions of young people 'hanging around' and misbehaving have also diminished as a result. The members have led by example, displaying a team spirit that others have followed.

Future plans

In 1999, Kemsley Youth House celebrated it's tenth anniversary. Newly refurbished, the Youth House continues to provide a safe oasis for children and young people, between the ages of 8 and 19 years, to meet and offers opportunities for personal and social development including arts and crafts, an afterschool club and mother and toddlers group.

Even our next door neighbours have been very supportive because they know what a positive thing this is for Kemsley.
