Who we are

Just Ask Nottingham is an information and support service for young people in Nottingham. It is peer led by our young people management committee group and peer mentors. The project has a website that offers all sorts of practical peer led advice, and over 56 young people peer mentors and cyber mentors, that are actively supporting young people.

How we started

Just Ask was the idea of a group of young people, part of a youth inclusion project, who wanted a service for Nottingham that was led by young people.

Our work

We have peer mentors that specialise in sexual health, stopping smoking, and transitional peer mentors that support year 7s in secondary schools. Following from a consultation with young people in Nottingham, Just Ask are delivering an employment campaign to get young people into work -  this has included a peer led young people careers event, work clubs and a peer led commissioning process that has given funding to organisations across Nottingham for apprenticeships, one to one support and CV writing workshops for young people etc.

Future plans

The project will continue training peer mentors and support them to specialise in a chosen issue that they want to support. In October the steering group have organised an event at the Victoria Shopping centre to recruit more members. They are also looking to run a consultation exercise about the priorities of young people in the city. This will help Just Ask plan projects based on what people want over the next year.

"Just Ask is an amazing project that is led by us - young people for young people. It does exactly what it says on the tin. With the support of the youth facilitator staff we help ourselves by organising courses that will enable us to develop both as individuals and as a group."
