How we started

The group was approached by police and other teams in the area about the concern of underage drinking and behaviour on friday evenings within the town, our town was highlighted as one of the towns with the highest amount of young people underage drinking. So the group called many meetings and come up with the Friday Night Project to help combat these worries that were being highlighted.

Our work

The project opens on friday evenings from 6pm till 10pm, each evening the group hosts a new workshop/activity for the young people, who come in, to do. We ran a 12 week trial period to see if the project would work, what time of year is best to run it? and how many would access the project. The workshops ranged from non-alcoholic cocktails to grafitti projects, uv painting, cooking and many more!!!

Future plans

From our trial period we found we had 234 young people accessed the project during the 12 weeks and that most were happier to come and learn/try something new at the project rather than being on the streets. we found that the best time to run the project is during the winter months, as during summer nights the young people would rather be down the beach. The project was such a success we have planned to run the project from october half term up until easter for best results.
