How we started

Castlemilk has sometimes been given a bad reputation, and these young people wanted to improve things.

Our work

Displaying enormous levels of energy and commitment, the young people set about organising youth conferences, training courses and workshops. Having identified issues such as bullying, territorial gang violence and community safety, they then devised and sought funding for projects to impact on these problems. "It's had a big impact on them in terms of their own personal development and confidence," reflects youth worker Vicki Burns. "They now feel included in the community. Many are now working in part-time jobs, and this experience has certainly helped them to get those jobs."

Future plans

Were you part of this winning group? We'd love to hear from you about what you're up to now!

The group certainly deserved this award. The project has kept them incredibly busy and to be among the winners is a great tribute to the hard work they've all put in.
