A programme buddying senior students with junior students to help them with reading and social skills.

Who we are

80 senior and 60 junior students from Castlehead High School.

Where we're based

Paisley

When we started

1996

How we started

The club was inspired by an article about young people with reading difficulties and the effects of this upon their social and future outlook.

Our work

Senior students volunteer two of their lunch breaks to help junior pupils with their reading. The programme has raised reading ages, eradicated some of the bullying surrounding people with reading difficulties and also increased the confidence and self-esteem of the young people involved.

Future plans

Group members Jen and Donna have been involved in the Philip Lawrence Awards since 2003, and now are ambassadors for PLAnet.

Being part of the Paired Reading Club has been a very valuable and memorable experience.
