A youth-led community radio station in the north-east of Glasgow.
Who we are
Young people from Glasgow.
Where we're based
Provanmill, Glasgow
When we started
We were established in April 2001
How we started
We started through the Royston Road Project with an aim of bringing the surrounding together in a more positive and constructive way.
Our work
Bolt FM serves the communities of Royston, Blackhill, Germiston, Provanmill, Robroyston, Barmulloch, Sighthill, Springburn and beyond. Bolt FM has empowered young people to own and operate their own radio station – giving them a unique voice in their community. The average age of the board is 21 with many young people going on to study in a related subject at college/ university. Using local young people as peer trainers, Bolt FM runs a training programme for young people in DJ skills, arts development, drama and music, participation and broadcast radio production. The project works closely with partners in a wide variety of organisations including North Glasgow College, local community police, drugs services, youth workers, housing associations, libraries and churches.
Future plans
We will be broadcasting online up until Christmas of this year and in April 2011 we will be back on the airwaves to celebrate our 10th anniversary. We are currently looking for young people to come on-board and become dj's with the help of our training programmes
