How we started
This project started with two adults from the Club leading the maintenance of sporting facilities, with the then sixteen-year-old twins (now eighteen years old) supporting this maintenance. Shortly after the start of the project, the two leading adults of this project sadly passed away. From here, the twins showed initiative and took a lead on the projects outlined above through all the skills the two (now former) leading adults had taught them. The twins take control the project, on top of their employment and A-Level commitments.
Our work
This project involves the upkeep of two cricket pitches, hockey training facilities and girls' football throughout the year. There are also company 'Fun Day' events and celebratory events, co-ordinated throughout the year.
Future plans
The main aim is to attract more youngsters into sport by impressing them with the playing surface they use. This will in turn create a larger pool of young players and volunteers to help all Clubs prosper. This could be in the form of school tournaments to reach out to as many youngsters as possible. Internally, strengthening the links between the members of the Cricket, Hockey and Football clubs would be done through more young volunteers taking an active role into improving the maintenance of the playing surfaces. If the facilities are improved further, the Cricket Club aims to bid to host Essex Ladies matches. This would act as an advert for girls and ladies to play cricket in our area, which we have not been successful at in the past. Every effort to fulfil the criteria to host such a match would need to be covered if this project won a Philip Lawrence Award.
