2010 REGIONAL FINALIST A peer led initiative, we are a group of home educated students creating meaningful opportunities for ourselves and others, focusing on sports and the arts, and about to embark on a media project to challenge the perceptions of home education.
Who we are
26 home educated students
Where we're based
Dudley
When we started
Jan-10
How we started
We came together as a group through GCSE class provided by the local authority.
Our work
We are all home educated. We are peer led, which means we create opportunities for ourselves, and go on a monthly activity, designed to be new and challenging. This is important because people who home educate choose to do so for a wide range of reasons, which can include bullying, behavioral issues, SEN including autism, and because of a religion. This can mean some students are isolated or lack self esteem.
Future plans
We hope to continue and expand, drawing in more young people to be part of the planning process. We are also about to embark on a media project to challenge the perception of home education in the media.
