A marching band set up from scratch by two teenagers.

Who we are

We are a marching band affiliated to the 5th Halifax Boys Brigade company based in Elland.

Where we're based

Elland,Yorkshire

When we started

Sep-09

How we started

We started with a handful of instruments that we had begged, borrowed and stole. We started with 5 boys, aged 11-16. We started with me (16) and a friend (16) with limited knowledge of running a band. We started by borrowing instruments from various surrounding bands. This was a huge task in itself as many bands were reluctant to lend us equipment etc. We then managed to start on Wednesday 23rd September with the 5 boys which were at the Boys brigade company. We had NO staff and limited knowledge ourselves.

Our work

Our aim is to provide musical tuition to the members of our company, and also the surrounding area. We play drums, (snares basses and tenors), brass (trumpets, mellophones, flugelhorns, baritones and tubas) and Glockenspiels.

Future plans

The band is going from strength to strength. It has now grown to 15 boys. This is a phenomenal growth in 6 months and shows just what scope there is for this activity in our area. We hope to increase numbers even more, eventually having over 40 members and adding our local Girls brigade company. We played at our first `Gig` on Sunday 28th February at our local church. Our next event will be again at our local church on Wednesday 5th May. After this, we hope to continue building on these foundations and hopefully in 2011 go into national competition. This will take us all across the country, taking our members to see some of the finest marching bands in the country, and hopefully maybe win something along the way!
